DARLINGTON -- Alva V. Swindler, 76, retired R. R. Donnelley & Sons employe, died Saturday in the Carmen Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He was a member of the United Methodist Church here and a 50-year member of the Darlington Masonic Lodge. He served in World War I and was a member of the Darlington American Legion. Born April 2, 1895 in Boone County, he was the son of Oliver and Mary Todd Swindler. He married Mary Marie Waugh in June of 1937. She preceded him in death July 12, 1970. He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Everett McMullen of Darlington, and two nieces, Mrs. William Vannice and Mrs. John R. Reynolds. Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Bright and Burkhart Funeral Home here with Rev. R. Dale Waltz officiating. Burial will be in Plainview Cemetery near Colfax. Friends may call at the funeral home where Masonic rites will be at 7:30 tonight.
